By Clayton ShereniCITY of Masvingo recently shined at the Zimbabwe Chief ExecutiveOfficers Network awards held in the capital, Harare, last week where the local authority and its officials scooped accolades for their outstanding work in local governance. Masvingo City Council was pronounced the best performing local authority, while Mayor Collen Maboke was adjudged the OutstandingMayor, Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa, was named the Outstanding TownClerk, while Ashleigh Jinjika, scooped the outstanding PublicRelations Officer award. In an interview, Maboke said the city always strives to provide better service delivery to residents and the awards are a clear indication that they are working tirelessly at the townhouse.
“We are humbled and elated to have received such special recognition. As the City of Masvingo, we will always do our best in improving service delivery. We also face challenges just like any other local authority but these awards are testimony that we are clearly working hard to make our great city the best,” Maboke said. Chief among the city’s projects are the Main Trunk Sewer project, Cambria Farm landfill meant to end dumpsite woes, and the WaterAugmentation project.
The city has also managed to construct its first secondary school in Rujeko high-density suburb which was last week officially opened by Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo. The awards which attract business people and public officials from various institutions are an annual event meant to honor individuals and institutions who are making strides in their respective fields. Masvingo Residents congratulated the city fathers for being recognized for sterling work at the national awards and urged them to keep working hard to improve the quality of service delivery in the city.
Masvingo United Residents and Rate Payer Alliance(MURRA), ProgrammesManager, Rumbidzai Magurupira, said the city council should continue the good work for its residents.“Congratulations are in order to Masvingo city and individual officials who scooped these amazing awards, we say to them continue working hard in putting our great city on the national map of excellence performance in the provision of quality service provision,” she said,
