Police in Masvingo have prohibited the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from hosting their provincial rally which had been scheduled for this Sunday, Centre News can exclusively reveal.

In a prohibition notice directed to the party’s district chairperson Martin Mureri, Officer Commanding Masvingo District, Simangaliso Dube said the proposed CCC rally could not go ahead as planned since Zanu PF is hosting two similar rallies.

“Masvingo Central Police District is hosting two Zanu PF rallies which are booked on the same municipality are; at two different venues at Mucheke and Mamutse stadia on the same date as yours, on the 20th of March 2022.

“Hosting a third rally on the same date would not be feasible under the circumstances as police would not be able to cope due to resource constraints,” said Dube in the notice. The police boss also warned the party from hosting the rally saying it will be a crime to proceed with the rally. “Take not that it shall be an offence in terms of section 8(11) to proceed with the meeting when the notice is still extant,” further reads Dube’s notice.

Efforts to get a comment from Mureri were futile as he didn’t pick up his mobile until the time of publishing. CCC Masvingo has been trying to host their provincial star rally and their latest attempt is to shift venue to Rujeko Open Grounds.

Despite the ban, CCC has continued to publicize the rally as they continue to engage the relevant authorities. The party’s previous rallies in Midlands and Matebeleland have been marred with controversy and hostility from the police.
