Over 100 disadvantaged pupils from 5 schools in Gutu north got a shot on the arm after a local philanthropist, Geroge Vhengere stretched his arm and assisted them with school uniforms, recently.
Through his foundation named after him, The George Vhengere Foundation has made a series of donations and donated school uniforms to less privileged pupils across the country in a bid to assist the attainment of the basic right to education.
A couple of days ago the foundation turned its attention to Gutu North primary schools; Guchacha, Nharira, Chatikobo, Zvavahera and Rafamoyo where the disadvantaged pupils received a school uniforms.
Parents and guardians of the beneficiaries who spoke during the handover ceremonies appreciated the gesture with some pleading for more support.
“We are glad to see one of our off-springs coming back to support children in his rural constituency. It has been a rough patch and we are struggling because of the economic conditions, but this foundation has really helped to bridge the gap,” a parent, Monalisa Murambwi said.
Vhengere who is the Director of the foundation promised that his organization would continue supporting less-privileged pupils and schools at large in the constituency.
“We are responsible for building and developing our nation as citizens hence; as a foundation we are complimenting the efforts of President Mnangagwa by making sure Gutu North becomes a better area.
“We will not tire as a foundation in doing the little we can. This is not the end but the beginning of greater things to come,” Vhengere said.
In past months, the foundation donated school uniforms to more than 80 pupils in the constituency and has promised to roll out more initiatives aimed at assisting the less-privileged and alleviating poverty.
