For most people weekends are a time to take some time off work to spend time out with family and friends, something that is usually not ubiquitous in the country’s oldest urban settlement due to limited entertainment activities and events.
As such Lake October Great Zimbabwe Festival provided a rare opportunity for fun lovers to spend quality time with their beloved one at various events that were lined up in and around the city.
The usually sleepy Ancient city reverberated into a massive rude entertainment awakening from scintillating Music shows to tourism events at Lake Mtirikwi, Great Zimbabwe monuments and subsequently to the 22 Km Marathon competition, the weekend was just fun filled and locals were spoilt of choice.
Indeed the festival lived up to its billing, first with the unforgettable Night Music Concert which featured Mukudzei Mukombe aka Jah Prayzah and Freeman on October 21.
Both artists did not disappoint as they put up stellar performances, much to the delirium of their multitude of fans who were kept on their feet throughout the night.
Saturday night brought in yet another explosion with Wallace Chirumiko aka Wink D headlined a show that featured gorgeous music Diva Feli Nandi and Voltz JT.
The artists put up genteel acts, with Big man Winky D now affectionately known as the choir master stood out tops as he belted out hit after hit for his frenzy fans who also sang along.
Fans expressed satisfaction with the performances and expressed gratitude to the organizers of the festival that lightened up the ancient city that has been starved of showbiz over the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
A reveler who identified himself as Bla Tich said this was one of the weekends to remember on the entertainment calendar of the city.
“What an amazing weekend great shows tanakirwa Masvingo huchi,’’ he said.
One of the show organizers, Christon Tapiwa Kwanisai hailed Masvingo fun lovers for their support and huge turn-out at the events.
“I would want to appreciate the people of Masvingo and the country at large for making this event a success. The shows were a great success” said Kwanisai.
The organizers said they were looking forward to do more for the event next year as they took home some lessons from the weekend events.
