By Clayton ShereniAFTER a blissful and successful career playing for arguably the biggest clubs in the country including Dynamos and Caps United FC, veteran defender George Magariro is still living the dream as he continues his football journey, but now on the touchline as a coach.Magariro hung his boots after an illustrious career spanning over a decade. Growing up on the dusty roads of Redcliff he launched his career at the now defunct Lancashire Steel FC, before carrying his bags to the then busman, Tanda Tavaruva sponsored Masvingo United FC where his rock solid defending antics lured the eyes of the national biggest club, Dynamos FC before moving to Caps United FC, Tsolotsho FC, and Masvingo Pirates to mention but a few. The soft-spoken but tough defender during his playing days did not just serve with distinction but also captained with glitz and glamour at the most successful club in the country, Dynamos, a team that commands possibly seven million supporters according to the club. After his successful career at the heart of defense for clubs in the topflight, Mavhariro as Magariro was lauded by Dynamos fans seems to be striking the right code as a gaffer at ambitious Masvingo-based side FC Wangu Mazodze.Having guided Masvingo United FC to their maiden Diamonds Cup trophy in 2019 as he jointly took charge of the squad with another veteran Godfrey ‘Mai Mahofa’ Dondo, Mavhariro ventured into junior football development with Masvingo Youth Academy and Masvingo Footballers Trust (MAFT) academy. Magariro joined the Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) side, FC Wangu Mazodze last season and has so far been producing stellar results with the flamboyant side. FC Wangu Mazodze sit at the summit of ERSL lop table with 16 points from six games, three points clear of second-placed Mutare City Rovers FC. In an exclusive interview with Centre News, Magariro downplayed his success so far saying the season is still young to talk about it. He however revealed that so far the journey has been intriguing heaping praises on players, executive, fellow coaches and their 12th man.“The boys are playing according to instruction, of cause here and there, we might face setbacks but the determination and effort of the team is exceptional. We have a very supportive executive that has always rallied behind us since day one and I believe that with this kind of support, we are posed for greater heights. Our fans have believed in us and as the technical team we work together effortlessly striving to produce the best results,” said Magariro. Quizzed on their aim this season, Magariro said their primary target was to get the best results.“As we get in every game, our main focus is to collect maximum points. We are not here to be pushovers but we intend to give our opponents a good run for their money” added Magariro.Magariro has literally transferred his defensive prowess to his defensive line conceding only one goal from six outings. His attacking charges have scored eight goals from the same number of games (6) with the team registering five wins and one draw. FC Wangu Mazodze’s proprietor, Richard Wangu Mazodze has also roped in the services of seasoned goal minders, Masimba Madziwana and Forward Pfumojena in addition to the veteran striker, Passmore Mupinganjira. The Kingdom Boys as FC Wangu Mazodze is affectionately known will this coming weekend play away to a stubborn seventh-placed Grayham FC. Last weekend they came back to winning ways when they defeated Midway FC 2-1 after having recorded their first stalemate away to Rusitu Tigers FC.Masvingo’s football-loving community has pinned its hopes on the Kingdom Boys to quench their PSL thirst as they sit on the summit of ERSL.,
