…back biting Rocks technical department

By Clayton Shereni

All is not rosy at Eastern Region Division 1 Soccer League (ERSL) log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze, whose house is reportedly on fire as internal wrangles continue to unfold, Centre News can reveal.

This publication is reliably informed that five key players have been suspended over allegations of smoking marijuana during their away match to Mutare City Rovers at Vhengere Stadium last weekend.

The players are, Tendai Mukono, Edward Mafa, Tatenda Chihava, Ngoni Mane Gore and Guidance Charinda.

The suspension of these players comes at a time when there are serious power struggles in the technical team.

Nine players were signed during the window period and the coaches have been reportedly forced to use some of those players despite not being in their plans.

Former Dynamos defender, George Magariro who has been steering the ship is reportedly being sidelined and on the verge of being shown the exit door for allegedly failing to take technical orders from the club owners.

One member of the technical team is reportedly working in cohorts with some executive members and a former coach at the club to decide on player selection.

It is alleged that during the selection process they sideline Magariro whom they eventually show the final list of selected players later, despite him being the “man in charge.”

“It’s just a messy at the club, the situation is bad, there is too much interference from the club owner and his wife, also there are power struggles in the technical bench a lot of back biting and as things stand so far they are targeting Magariro’s scalp, they are slowly sidelining him and am sure they will get rid of him despite his achievements so far,” said an insider who preferred anonymity

Contacted for comment, Magariro declined to comment but this publication has it in good authority that he has lost grip and players are being signed and released without consulting him.

Club spokesperson, Sukuoluhle Ndlovhu, declined that they had suspended the players saying what happened is part of internal processes.

“No player was suspended, these players are still part of the team. Those are internal processes,” said Ndlovhu.

Commenting on the issue of changes and power struggles within the technical team, Ndlovhu said Magariro remains the head coach.

“Magariro is the Head Coach and has all the powers over the technical team. Masimba Dinyero has joined the team and this does not mean Magariro has been stripped of his powers. He (Dinyero) comes in as part of the technical team,” said Ndlovhu.

In a recent circular doing rounds on social media the club’s vice president and wife to the club President and club owner, Gertrude Mazodze,  confirmed the addition of Masimba Dinyero to the team’s technical department.

However, it is not clear which position he is coming to occupy raising suspicion that Magariro will soon face the chop.

Players who spoke to this publication said players’ welfare has drastically deteriorated and is different from what is being portrayed on social media.

In recent months some players have been shown the exit door while some have been suspended and had pay cuts under unclear circumstances.
